Present But Not Present

Updated: Feb 1

I had a conversation with a friend the other day about my book, The Fatherless Devotionals.

He shared that the title made him pause.

What he helped me see—clearly—is this: fatherlessness shows up in ways far beyond the “deadbeat dad” narrative we’re used to.

His father was present… but emotionally unavailable. Wounded by his own trauma.

Lacking the capacity to connect, love, or lead the way his son needed.

And the truth is, many fathers are living paralyzed by circumstances beyond their control—never knowing what it feels like to be loved, and therefore never learning how to give it.

They didn’t receive it.

They didn’t see it.

They never had a father or father figure with the capacity to pour into them. Believe it or not, there is an entire generation struggling with this.

This is fatherlessness too.

If this resonates with you— He showed up, but wasn’t present -

Let’s dive in.

Your story matters.

And I would truly love to hear it. #T.A.P. IN
